tweedsmuir wilderness camp on turner lake

A great place to relax and explore... Tweedsmuir Wilderness Camp on Turner Lake is a premium quality adventure destination. Canoeing, camping, hiking, fishing, photography and more are tops here!

Your trip starts at Nimpo Lake... this spectacular 'mountain outpost' is just 20 minutes by floatplane and we'll set you down on Turner Lake following a scenic flight over Hunlen Falls. Or, if you are inclined to take in a little more backcountry enroute, consider an extended flightsee through Monarch Icefields and/or the Rainbow Range... all are awesome - so have your camera ready!

7 lakes await... perched at 3,500 feet, on the eastern edge of Tweedsmuir Provincial Park, stretches a chain of lakes which flow into Turner Lake and ultimately over Hunlen Falls. Seven lakes connected by a stream are cradled between the Coastal Mountains on either side... all are navigable by canoe. You can rent a canoe for the day, or add a cabin and stay for a week. If you have any questions, please contact Tweedsmuir Air.

Canoes... Mohawk canoes of durable royalex are available to rent, in three sizes... 15' solo, 61 lbs (4.6m, 27.45kg); 16', 65 lbs (4.8m, 29.25kg); and 17', 69 lbs (5.2m, 31.05kg). Paddles and life jackets are included.

Camping... lakeside sites are located on Turner, Junker, Widgeon and Kidney lakes; all are equipped with firepits, tent pads, firewood, benches and bear caches. Camping permits may also be purchased at Tweedsmuir Air Services' base on Nimpo Lake.

Cabins... two rustic cabins are available at Turner Lake. Located on a private sandy beach, equipped with wood stoves, firewood, 4 beds and foamies, tables and chairs... you'll appreciate the comfort when the weather turns cold or wet.
cutthroat trout
Lake and stream fishing... until the 1950s, there were no fish in the system due to Hunlen Falls. Ralph Edwards, of Lonesome Lake, saw to 'seeding the system' by packing up two spawning pairs of cutthroat trout from Lonesome Lake and releasing them into the Hunlen Valley waters. Over the years, these cutthroat have flourished and spread in great numbers up and down the chain. The cutts make for great 'pan fryers', but we encourage you to keep only what you eat while in the park.
The lakes are open year round, but streams are closed to fishing until July 1st. Fishing licences and supplies are available at our floatbase... be sure you have your licence's required! Light fishing gear - fly or spin - is recommended if you are planning to wet a line. Just go prepared!
ptarmigan lake
Local hikes... numerous trails are cleared and marked just for you. Take a leisurely hike along the stream or to the bluffs overlooking Hunlen Falls. For more vigorous hikes, head to Panorama Ridge and the high alpine above Turner Lake... spectacular views of the surrounding backcountry are just waiting to be discovered!

Get away from it all at... Tweedsmuir Wilderness Camp!
